Idaho Homowners Exemption
Idaho homeowner’s primary residence is eligible for an exemption of 50% of the assessed value of the home, up to a maximum of $50,000. For more information and applications, contact your county assessor.

Property Tax Reduction (Circuit Breaker)
If you are a qualified Idaho homeowner, you may be eligible for the 2005 Property Tax Reduction program. This program may reduce property taxes on your home and up to one acre of land by as much as $1,200. The Idaho State Tax Commission administers the Property Tax Reduction program but application is made through the county assessors office (Chapter 7 of Idaho Code). Guidelines and filing procedures are outlined in the 2005 Idaho Property Tax Reduction Program brochure.

Property taxes apply to homes (including manufactured housing), farms, businesses, industry, warehouses, offices, and most privately owned real estate, as well as personal property such as machinery and equipment, and office furniture and equipment. Taxpayers must pay at least half of their property taxes by Dec. 20 and the other half by June 20. However, partial payments in increments of no less than $25.00 may be arranged with the County Treasurer.

Personal income tax
• Idaho personal income tax ranges from 1.6 percent to 7.8 percent with 8 brackets..

Sales tax
• Idaho state sales tax is 6 percent (prescription drugs exempt). Local municipalities or cities are allowed to impose their own tax up to 3%. Gasoline Tax: 25 cents/gallon




•The top five states where the tax burden as a percent of income is the highest are: Maine (13.0%), New York (12.0%), Hawaii (11.5%), Rhode Island (11.5%), and Wisconsin (11.4%).  The United States average is 10.1%.  The District of Columbia is 12.2%.

• The five states with the lowest tax burden as a percent of income are: Alaska (6.4%) 50th, New Hampshire (7.4%) 49th, Delaware (8.0%) 48th, Tennessee (8.3%) 47th, and Alabama (8.7%) 46th. See effective state tax burden table
